End Polio Now Flag Raised!

The Town of New Tecumseth has proclaimed the week of November 18, 2012 as Polio Awareness Week.

Rotary International’s  pledge to the world’s children is to eradicate polio in every county and end this disease.

The PolioPlus campaign was started in 1988 by Rotary International and its partners, the World Health Organization, UNICEF and the U.S. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.  The Gates Foundation has now joined as a major partner.

The Canadian Minister of International Cooperation, Julian Fantino, has issued a challenge with Rotarians in Canada that for every $1 donated until the end of this year, the Gates Foundation and the Canadian International. Development organization will each contribute a $1.  Making your $1 donation – 3 for 1

Today there are only 3 countries with cases of polio – Afghanistan,  Nigeria and Pakistan.  We are so close to eradicating polio.

As long as there is one person still infected – it will be necessary to vaccinate 400 million children annually.

We urge you to support this program and help end this deadly disease.  We need to End Polio Now.
