The Rotary Club of Alliston's parade float, assembled by members Punnapa Hartley and Gary Banting
The Alliston Potato Festival Parade, presented by the Rotary Club of Alliston, kicks off the three-day Potato Festival each year on Friday night. It’s one of Rotary’s most successful community events and this year’s parade was no exception. A crowd of several thousand came out to see 64 participants – floats, vehicles of all shapes and sizes, and some walkers. They represented New Tecumseth’s and Simcoe County’s emergency services, area businesses, charities, community service organizations and marching bands. Rogers Community TV was there to broadcast the parade live. Despite interruptions to the parade from CPR trains at the level crossing on Victoria Street, a good time was had by all. The parade was organized by Rotary member George Scott and supported by more than 20 volunteers including other members, their family and students from Banting Memorial High School.
