The Rotary Club of Alliston's Pathway to Paradise
Lynn Conforti, Major Gifts Officer with DeafBlind Ontario Services, is very grateful for the recent work completed for one of their homes in Innisfil thanks to a donation from The Rotary Club of Alliston. The Innisfil Professional Firefighters Association and RBH Inc. also contributed generously. These groups made it possible to develop a sensory garden at the residence with total access for all residents.
From these generous donations, DeafBlind Ontario Services has been able to install a paved walkway from the front of the house to the backyard to a new patio. In addition to being deafblind, the residents of this house have mobility issues which have prevented them from using their spacious backyard in the past. The paved walkway has opened up a whole new world for these deafblind individuals to explore and experience.
A pergola has been installed over the new patio and a series of raised gardens have been created on two sides of the patio while a water feature completes the sensory garden. The deafblind individuals from this house spend time in their new garden almost every day and eat many of their meals there. Deafblind individuals from neighbouring houses also have the opportunity to spend time in this oasis.
Lynn thanks all of these groups for sharing the passion to ensure that deafblind individuals have every opportunity to reach their full potential.
